Celebrate Queen's 70 yr Jubilee - Posted: Tues, Apr 26, 2022, 11:41 am - By Kathleen Windsor
In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after an amazing 70 years of service!

Celebrating the Queen's 70 years in the same job!The Didsbury and District Historical Society is planning free family activities to honour Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee, and you're invited to a weekend of fun, games, and celebrations.

In the past week or so, you will have seen custom designed seed packets in various stores throughout Didsbury this spring. These are free for the taking and are the Museum's contribution to the Town's Communities in Bloom activities.

From 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday, June 4th, visitors will visit "Moose Fence Park" for a circuit of games hosted by the Didsbury Municipal Library. Activities in the park will include miniature golf, bocce ball, some carnival games, maybe horseshoes, chess and checkers, and a floral craft (also celebrating Communities in Bloom). And no Royal Jubilee would be complete without a rousing game of croquet!

Also at the park, there will be picnic areas from 11 am to 4 pm, so pack a picnic lunch and cop-a-squat on one of the red gingham mats.

Bring your camera and pose behind two cut-out panels perfect for the event: one of the Queen and her Corgis, and one of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Catherine. Great photo memories!

The Museum is joining Didsburians in the annual Commmunity Wide Garage Sale on June 4th as well, and there will be lots of goodies for treasure hunters (maybe you'll find something special for a Father's Day gift).

"Fancy a cuppa?"
The weekend celebrations conclude on Sunday, June 5th with a very prestigious Afternoon Tea at the Museum. The Historical Society is well-known for its afternoon socials, and the Museum will be offering three sittings (12-1 pm, 1-2 pm, and 2-3 pm), and taking reservations. Please call 403-335-9295 to book your sitting.

The tea offers a splendid selection of some of the Queen's favourite dishes, and an afternoon tea with friends is a perfect time for a friendly chin-wag!

The Library, Arts Society, Model Railroad Club, and Town of Didsbury are all very proud to join the Historical Society in offering a respectful and educational program to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee.

This is going to be fun!
