|It's that time of year again - time to start planning your parade float!! The Didsbury Elks 34th Annual Parade will be on Saturday, August 18th during the Didsbury Fair and Rodeo. Great fun for the entire family!|
The parade begins at 11 am and runs on 20th Avenue and 20th Street. Special Prizes for Kids! Enter your bikes, pets, or dress up! The theme for this year's parade is "Salute to the Didsbury Museum - 40 Years Preserving our History".
How about these parade float decorating ideas?
* Low-boy trailers are great, especially if they have rails around the perimeter
* Go to your favourite store and see if they have any pallets you can have. They're great for elevating the platform. Then lay plywood on top where float riders can sit or stand. Attach your skirt to the plywood. (The skirt will hide the wheels)
* Lettering can be made from Styrofoam, poster board, etc., and many of your decorations can be made out of cardboard, upside-down garbage cans, etc.
* Use a child's wagon or a shopping cart. Decorate these with pom poms, streamers, balloons, risers made out of an old hat box, even dolls or stuffed animals
Stop by the Didsbury Dollar Store - there's lots of items you can use to help decorate your float there - balloons, streamers - the list is endless!
Line up for floats is at 14th Street and 20th Avenue (near the hospital) beginning at 10 am. Judging starts at 10:30 am.
Residents and visitors are asked to please not park along the parade route from 10 am to 12 noon.
