Christmas Helpers care to share - Posted: Tues, Nov 28, 2017, 11:20 am
ITEMS LIST AVAILABLE HERE - Every community needs people who sincerely care about others in the community, especially as the holiday season approaches. In Didsbury, those people are called Christmas Helpers. You can be a part of the magic too!

Helping those less fortunate is a culture in Didsbury. The Christmas Helpers program began December 1st and includes Angel Trees, Christmas Hampers, Gift Wrapping and food sorting for the hampers.

Each year the Didsbury community, under the direction of Linda Sirr and Linda Regner, gets involved in putting together food and gift hampers for those who find themselves in unfortunate situations during the Christmas season.

Pick an angel from the Christmas tree at the Post Office. Buy an age-appropriate gift, then take the unwrapped gift, with the angel attached, to the friendly staff at the Post Office by December 15th.

Christmas Helpers also needs non-perishable food donations. Bring them to the Zion Church, or place in boxes located in stores around town by December 15th.

Cash donations are accepted and used to purchase meat vouchers and additional food. Please make cheques payable to Zion Evangelical Missionary Church (ZEMC) and mark "Christmas Hampers" on the cheque. (Receipts will be issued at the end of the year.) These donations can be taken directly to the Zion Church at the east entrance to Didsbury.

Urgently Needed: Small items for men and women to include in family hampers, (e.g. lotions, candles, toiletries).

Gift wrapping and food sorting takes place on Friday, December 15th from 7 - 9 pm at the Zion Church. Everyone's help is needed. Please bring scissors and leftover wrapping paper. This is a very enjoyable night and truly a great way to bring us into the spirit of Christmas.

Hampers will be distributed on Saturday, December 16th. Meet at the church after 12 pm.

For more information, or to volunteer some time, please contact Becky at the Zion Church (403-335-3629) or Linda Sirr at 403-335-2378.

If you or someone you know is in need, please call Zion E.M. Church at 403-335-3629 to have your/their names entered on the list to receive a hamper. Please include street address, phone number, how many adults, children's ages and sex.

Thanks for your help in the Didsbury Christmas Helper Program.

If you would like to donate a hamper, please CLICK HERE for a list of items that would fill a "Small Sleigh", "Medium Sleigh", or "Large Sleigh". Organizations and clubs are encouraged to band together to fill a food hamper.

If you agree to do a hamper, you are assigned a number and buy the required food items from the list. Workers will check each hamper to make sure that they have the minimum items requested. Additional items are then added to the hamper from the other food/monetary donations received. Gifts appropriate for the family are also delivered with the groceries.

You can add more to it if you wish. But they do want at least the basic staples in each one.

Remember, if the toys are battery operated, batteries need to be supplied, or they won't get the gift. No toy guns are allowed. Please do not wrap any gifts.
